Spend Less Time On Your Garden And Reap The Rewards
When gardeners attempt to encourage the masses to start growing their own produce, they have to take the fact that not everyone loves spending lots of time on cultivation into consideration. It is easy to see why the initial excitement of putting a garden on a rooftop can begin to wear off after realizing how much work it will take to maintain it. This is where hydroponic growing methods come into play. If you were to use soil, you would end up dragging pounds of soil and gallons of nutrients onto your rooftop every single week. With hydroponics there is no soil used at all and your plants get their nutrition from mineral based solutions applied directly to the roots. Using this system, the roots are submerged in water and are sometimes surrounded by soil substitutes. You can also simplify your gardening routine by using artificial light instead of rotating your plants. Your home may get enough sunlight, but if it is partially blocked by another building or other foreign objects you may have to install some growing lights.
Another way to spend less time tending your plants and crops is to use aeroponic gardening. Aeroponics is somewhat similar to hydroponic, only the water is vaporized and is applied to the roots constantly. It will probably take you a little while before you are able to use aeponics or hydroponics effectively, but once you are able to get everything in place you will be able to have a low maintenance gardening system. Reading up on this technology will help you to understand it in greater detail, but visiting gardens that use hydroponics and aeroponics will give you an idea of how to create a setup that will work well for you personally. The best part about these two gardening techniques is that plants almost always grown more efficiently and anything grown from those plants tastes great.
